SmartCodes

SmartCodes bridge the gap between traditional print media and the digital world.

QR SmartCodes (Quick Response Code) are similar to barcodes that can be found on any product item in a supermarket or retail store. However SmartCodes hold more information than a standard barcode, up to 7,000 digits and 4,300 alpha-numeric characters. This can include information such as the description of a place, a website URL or a listing of phone numbers.

QR SmartCodes work by the user taking a photo of a square black and white puzzle as displayed to the right of this page. A SmartCode could be placed inside an advertisement in a magazine or newspaper, or even in outdoor advertising spaces such as bus shelters and train stations.

Using code reader software installed on the mobile device, the software will decode the SmartCode and translate this into an instruction. This could be to open up a website URL on your phone, or to connect and download information about a place you have just arrived at.
